MDG 2024 allows petrol an evaporation and handling loss of 0.75% on sales up to an annual average of 600 KL, and 0.60% beyond. Diesel is allowed 0.25% and 0.20%. A pump selling 900 KL of petrol a year is allowed 6,300 litres.
MDG 2024, 5.1.11: petrol 0.75% up to an annual average of 600 KL and 0.60% beyond; diesel 0.25% and 0.20%.
The rates
| Fuel | Up to 600 KL a year | Beyond 600 KL a year |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol (MS) | 0.75% | 0.60% |
| Diesel (HSD) | 0.25% | 0.20% |
The calculator applies the first rate to the first 600 KL of the year’s sale and the second rate to the rest, then shows the month and day averages so you can compare them with your daily stock register.
Figures here are for reference. Your oil company’s certified calibration chart, approved instruments and the Marketing Discipline Guidelines always prevail.
Questions
Why is petrol allowed more than diesel?
Petrol is far more volatile. Its lighter parts evaporate every time a tank breathes, a tanker unloads or a vehicle is filled. Diesel barely evaporates at normal temperatures.
Is this on top of the 4% band?
Clause 5.1.11 lists it as one of the factors considered along with the normal operational variation of 4% of tank stock when establishing a stock variation.
