**Short answer:** Choose the tank model and type the litres. The calculator finds the dip that holds them, in cm, in mm and in cm and 2 mm bars. Use it to know where the dip should stand before a tanker and after it.

The calculator runs in the browser at https://dipdensity.watsinfo.com/tools/litres-to-dip-calculator/.

## How it works

Litres rise steadily with the dip, so the calculator searches the dip chart from both ends until it finds the dip that gives your litres, to well under a millimetre.

## Reading the answer on the rod

The answer comes three ways:

- **cm**, to one decimal.
- **mm**, for rods marked in millimetres.
- **cm and bars**, for rods with four 2 mm bars between centimetres. 58 cm and 4 bars is 58.8 cm.

## Questions

### When is this useful?

Before a tanker unloads, to know the dip it should reach. When the book says a tank holds a certain stock, to see what dip that means. And to set a safe-fill mark on a tank.

### Is it exact?

It is the exact inverse of the dip to litres calculator, so the two always agree. Your tank's certified chart prevails over both.
